Signs your heating needs a look

  • Furnace runs, but the house stays cold
  • Short cycling, on and off again every few minutes
  • Yellow or flickering burner flame instead of steady blue
  • A heating bill that jumped with no rate change
  • Bangs, rattles or whines you have not heard before

What a visit looks like

  1. Diagnose. We test the system, show you what we found, and explain it in plain language.
  2. Quote. A written price before any work starts. If replacement makes more sense, we price both and let you decide.
  3. Fix. Repair or replacement, tested against the thermostat, permits handled, work area tidied.

Rebates in BC currently range from $1,500 to $16,000 for a qualifying heat pump, depending on income, home and heating type.

Estimate only, not a guarantee of eligibility. Actual amounts depend on income verification, household size, BC Assessment value, the equipment installed and program funding at the time you apply. Rebates require pre-registration before any work begins, and installation by a program-registered contractor. Figures current as of July 2026. Confirm details at betterhomesbc.ca.

Heating questions we hear a lot

Should I repair or replace?

If the repair costs more than a third of a new system and your furnace is past 15 years, replacement usually wins. We price both and let you decide, no pressure either way.

Can a heat pump really heat through a BC winter?

Yes. Modern cold-climate units are rated well below any Lower Mainland winter, and rebate-eligible systems must carry the whole house down to -5°C. Many homes keep a backup for the coldest snaps.

How long should a furnace last?

15 to 20 years with annual maintenance. Boilers often run 20 or more, heat pumps typically 12 to 15. Skipping maintenance shortens all of them. See our maintenance plans.

Do you service all brands?

We repair all major makes and models. For new installations we quote equipment we're confident standing behind for the long haul.

Do I need permits for a new furnace?

Gas and electrical work is permitted and inspected, which is a good thing. We pull the permits and include them in the written quote.

How fast can you get here?

Most repairs are booked within a day or two. No-heat calls jump the queue, and after-hours emergency response is available across the Lower Mainland.
